Adult Independent Study (AIS)

Adult Independent Study (AIS) offers home study for the high school diploma program. Adult and high school concurrent students complete assignments at home and meet with an instructor on a weekly basis for assistance and testing. The first step is to take a placement test. A minimum of 10.0 Reading level is required to participate. A refundable deposit of $40 is charged at the time of registration. See a counselor for more information.

This program targets youth and young adults (ages 16 - 24) who have exited high school and seek to complete their high school diploma.

High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)

 

Adults may earn a High School Equivalency Certificate by taking the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET).

 

The first step is to take a placement test. Students may enroll in test preparation classes at any time. The test is available in English or Spanish. Study for the HiSET by taking a preparation course. Must be at least 17 years 10 months of age to take the HiSET. 

 

Prior to Registration: Create a Profile/Account at www.hiset.ets.org/test_takers on the HiSET website. A personal active email account is required to receive test information, i.e. ETS Number

 

To Register for the Test You Need:


1.   Your ETS Number (sent to your personal e-mail account).

 

2.   A valid photo ID (i.e. Government-issued driver's licence, Passport, 
      CA State ID card, Military ID card, Consular, or Adult School ID)

 

3.   Cash or money order accepted for payment. Money orders payable to:
      Harbor Occupational Center.

High School Credit Recovery Program

This center offers reading and math assessment for students entering into ESL, Academic or CTE programs. The assessment test is free and no appointment is required.
